Wine and Latin-inspired food can make a brilliant pairing, and the PCSC will soon have a chance to experience the two together!
Join us for a unique wine-tasting event on Sunday, January 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the acclaimed restaurant Mercado in Santa Monica. Our host will be Princeton alum Jesse Angel Gomez '98, who is co-owner of Mercado together with Chef Jose Acevedo. Mercado will provide a specially chosen group of small dishes to complement wines from Alex Sotelo Cellars in the Napa Valley.
PCSC Members: $55/person
Non-PCSC Members: $65/person
Winemaker Alex Sotelo, born in Mexico, arrived in Napa in 1991 and got his start working in the vineyards. After years of study and hands-on experience, today he produces small super premium wines at his own cellars. We will enjoy a selection of his red, white and dessert wines especially chosen to complement Mercado's cuisine.Jesse Gomez has literally grown up in the restaurant business. The first in his collection of Mexican cuisine restaurants, El Arco Iris, was introduced in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles in 1964 by his grandparents Gustavo and Irene Montes. In 2009, Gomez introduced Yxta Cocina Mexicana, in the emerging Industrial District of downtown Los Angeles, and quickly earned praise for its inventive menu, artisan cocktails, and impressive art collection. Just last May, Gomez teamed with Chef Acevedo to open Mercado, with signature dishes including carnitas and an extraordinary flan which has been deservedly called "Best Flan in the Universe".
Space is limited, so book your seats today! We'll have the mezzanine level of Mercado reserved for our group. (Naturally, this event is limited to PCSC members, family and friends over the age of 21.) Please plan to stay for dinner afterward on your own if you have the time; Mercado has communal tables downstairs that will accommodate everyone.
